DUTIES OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

 

 

In addition to those duties and responsibilities established by law, the Board delegates the following specific duties and responsibilities to the Superintendent:

A.                   Implement all policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the Board.

B.                   Prepare and submit to the Board required reports.

C.                  Assume overall financial responsibility to include the following:

1.                                           Recommend salary schedules.

2.                                           Prepare reports on financial conditions.

3.                                           Be responsible for any reports required by the Board.

4.                                           Prepare a draft budget for Board consideration.

D.                  Recommend for Board approval all candidates for employment, transfer, reassignment, promotion, or termination.

E.                   Assume responsibility for assignment of personnel.

F.                   Formulate means of evaluating staff members and report such evaluation to the Board when necessary.

G.                  Provide professional leadership for the educational program of the School System.

H.                  Develop plans for the maintenance, improvement, or expansion of buildings and property needed to provide an adequate educational program.

I.                     Plan for the means to keep the community informed about school matters.

J.                    Keep decisions in line with Board policies, and in all matters where duties are not definitely defined, exercise discretion.

K.                   Attend all meetings of the Board, except when his/her employment is discussed, and have the right to speak on all matters but not to vote.

L.                   Bring such matters before the Board as may seem to him/her necessary for the general welfare of the School System.

M.                 Become ex-officio member of all committees of the board except the selection of the Superintendent.

N.                  Hold the power to suspend and/or recommend expulsion of students from school.

O.                  Employ and assign substitute teachers as needed, with the assistance of principals.

P.                   Attend and participate in local, state, regional, and national professional conferences as authorized by the Board as part of official duties.

Q.                  Have the responsibility for preparing and maintaining all minutes of the Board and other records pertaining to the School System, including distribution of such documents to school principals.

R.                  Temporarily fill job vacancies, pending final approval by the Board of Education.

S.                   Assume other duties as assigned by the Board.
