BOARD COMMITTEES

The Board may establish committees to assist the Board in carrying out its responsibilities.  The committees so established may be standing committees, with its members designated by the Board President on an annual basis, or, they may be special or ad hoc committees, the members of which shall be appointed by the Board President for such period of time as it takes to complete their assigned tasks.  Any or all of the committees so established pursuant to this policy may be dissolved at any time by majority vote of the Board.

STANDING COMMITTEES

The Board hereby establishes the following standing committees, whose members shall serve for a term of one (1) year from the annual organizational meeting of the Board in November:

Budget and Finance

Human Resources

Facilities and Grounds

Curriculum and Instruction

The Board President shall designate one of the members of each committee as its chairman.  All board members shall have notice of the meetings of all committees, in order to attend at their discretion.  The Board President shall be an ex-officio member of each standing, special or ad hoc committee.  Meetings of any committee established hereby shall be scheduled by the committee chairman after consultation with other members of the committee.

COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS

The function of committees is to be fact-finding, deliberative and advisory.  Board committees are to help the Board do its job, not help the staff do its job.  Committees will assist the Board chiefly by preparing policy alternatives and identifying areas of concern.  Board committees may not act or speak for the Board.  The Board shall define the specific duties of any special or ad hoc committee to be appointed by the Board President.  Further, the Board, in its sole discretion, may from time to time expand or limit the duties of any committee established hereby, including any standing committee.
